1969 - Black Dog’s first litter born late winter

1970 - Robert Douglas Sr. designed and oversaw construction of The Black Dog Tavern

1971 - The Tavern was open for business on January 2, 1971

1971 - Water Street Bakery opened for business in July

1979 - The Black Dog T-shirt was sold at the Bakery counter for the first time

1987 - The first Black Dog Catalog (a one page flyer) was produced for Christmas, 1987, featuring t-shirts, cookie tins, mugs, and baseball caps.

1992 - Mail Order moved out of the bike shop (now the General Store) to a new location on State Road, the SBS building.

1993 - The Black Dog General Store opens in October

1995 - The Black Dog Bakery Café building was purchased, gutted, and rebuilt. The Bakery Wholesale division began.

1996 - 25th Anniversary catalog produced: 25 pages and over 100 products.

1997 Retail Store opens in Edgartown in June.

2000- The Black Dog Summer on the Vineyard Cookbook published in June

2000 - Robert S. Douglas Jr. takes over as CEO in October

2001 - New Retail outlet opens at Dockside Marketplace in Oak Bluffs

2002 - Circuit Avenue Store opens in Oak Bluffs

2003- Two new stores open in Vineyard Haven, Whitefoot for Kids and BD Gear

2003- First off-island stores open: 214 Main Street, Falmouth, Ma. and 229 Commercial Street, Provincetown, Ma

2004- 628 Main St. Chatham MA and 33 Bannister's Wharf Newport, RI stores open.
